I must admit that panthers are pretty cool and I have a breading pair, they are one of the more expensive types of chameleons, I prefer blue tree monitors they have great personalities and they are beautiful and a ton of fun to watch they are monitors howeer and have the capability to bite and it hurts and they have sharp claws but youjust get used to it after a while they are even more expensive than panthers and my tank for them costed a fortune. i want mine to breed then i can sell them and make a ton of money for more tanks and reptiles.

well for one, chameleons require misting and a constant air flow. they are very sensitive to sounds and can get depressed easily. If you are a beginner, a leopard gecko is easy. Iguanas are not a good choice. they can be 6 feet and can leave BLOODY gashes in your arms, neck, face, head and anywhere. they eat a lot of salad, and even though they are small when they are younger, they grow fast. Many people get rid of their iguanas when they get big because they dont expect it. Bearded dragons are great pets. They arent mean and easy to maintain. If you want a lizard that is more on the pretty side, Australian Water Dragons, Chinese Water Dragons and Collared lizards are good pets. Blue Tree Montiors are known to cause an allergic reaction. They are monitors and their saliva is a little toxic so i wouldnt recommend them. Most monitors are a bit tempermental. I think any of the water dragons i mentioned or the collared lizards are your best bet. Bearded dragons and leopard geckos are great too. if you have any questions i am more than happy to help.

chameleons are very cool pets. There are several types you can purchase at most petstores or reptile shows, and can range price wise from 20$-150 depending on where you shop, just keep in mind the larger petstores charge higher prices due to purchaseing through a vender and shipping whereas if you went to a reptile show in your area your dealing with the breeder and will pay a cheaper price. I would check out a website called "kingsnake.com" they have a classified section you can look at to get ideas on pricing. They also have a section called "shows and events" look to see when they will have one in or near your area. It is usually under 10$ to get into a show and you will have a blast. I live in NC and i usually go at least once a year. I purchase chameleons, and differant snakes and other reptiles at these shows, ive always had good luck with the prices and health of the animals. good luck.

If you are new to reptiles or lizards, then a bearded dragon or leopard gecko would be best, they are very hardy and tame really well, chameleons of any kind are NOT beginner lizards, they require specific requirements such as heat and humidity and are not tolerant of these being wrong, chameleons do not like to be handled and cant be kept together, they are territorrial and will fight to the death.

I agree with the majority here, Geckos, cheap to buy, very cheap to provide a healthy environment and a large variety of types and morphs.
Bearded Dragons are more active but require Large Viv's and eat a lot compared to geckos so cost space and care are all dramatically increased, I see too many that are got as started pets, I say for the moderately experienced keeper only.
as for salmonella you are just as likely to get that from a cream cake just wash your hands after handling ANY animal.

My opninon and many expert opinions are the bearded dragons. very tame you can let the go anywhere and they will be fine. Easy care just feed the main diet everyday and its cool. and the have one of the most personlities for any reptile they are very fun to play with and watch and they dont get huge like igunas for example.

Quite a popular lizard pet is the Leopard Gecko.
Or, if you want something bigger, try something like a Bearded Dragon.

I would say a leopard gecko- not too expensive, not too big, and easy to care for. Also, bearded dragons are really cool too, but they are a little more expensive.

Anoles. They are neat to watch, especially the Bahaman ones. They are small, so they do not cost much to feed. That's what I always had, anyway. They were low-maintanance.

if you are a beginner then the best type of lizard is a gecko but if you are intermediate then i would recommend the iguana but if you are a experienced lizard keeper i would recommend the bearded dragon.
