as a recent graduate who worked through out my time in school, the real answer is not time, i had plenty of time and free time, it is their social life. Alcohol and drugs are very time consuming. You must take into consideration the 3pm after class drinking game followed by pregamming for the party later that nigth, followed by the party, followed by the late night fast foo run and the morning hang over.

I'm a college professor. The reason is largely practical: students who work get significantly lower grades than those who don't. Unless your job is directly related to your major, dividing your energies will have a negative impact on your college performance. If you do enjoy working, consider finding a job or an internship that is related to your major and consider restricting your employment to the summer vacation.

In undergrad, I was working way too hard for my grades to be working for money at the same time. And I was fortunate enough not to have to, but that is NOT the case for a LOT of students. There are plenty of people who work their way through school. I'm working full time now and taking classes to prepare for a second degree, and it's a lot harder this time!!

college takes a lot of energy and time; it's not something you can do easily while you have another *life*. If you don't have to work, finish your education first. of course some students have to work, but if you don't have to, 'work' on getting a college degree.

Most students do not work while in college becuase it is hard to manage time for school and work. however as students get closer to graduation they have learned to manage both work and school

Many of them are. My younger two children both worked and went to college. I am working on my Masters degree and many of my classmates work.
Many students get financial aid in the form of work study.

because it may be to much of a hassle to do both working and college, especially if the job is full time, or college. for me personally i work full time and right now college isnt in there for me maybe in a yr because itll be to hard and stressfull doing both. which is why many choose one path for now and then ultimatley they choose whats best for them. college for me is in the future defintiley- a good education is always beneficial in the real world. hopes this helps!
