When do you need to move to a bigger carseat? My son looks like he is propped up too much. When he falls asleep his head hangs down. It worries me! I wish they were adjustable so he can sit back a bit. He is only 4 months old, when does he move to bigger one?

I would like to make 1 thing clear its not 20 pounds OR 1 yrs its 20 pounds AND 1 year to face them forward. Your baby can be switched to a larger car seat but he is to remain refacing until the age of 12 months atleats. The Omega line is a good one that can be reclined with the use of just 1 hand while the baby is in it. however when purchasing a new car seat take into consideration how long you plan on keeping your child in a 5pt harness. Most car seats like the omega only hold up to 40 pounds in a 5pt harness. A 5pt harness is the safest for any child no matter what age. The Britax Marathon hold up to 65 pounds in the harness but is a bit more pricey. Take your child with you and fit him in the car seat and make sure he is comfortable and the car seat is easy fro you to use and compatible with your car

The straps are usually adjustable in height. They should come over your baby's shoulders about where his shoulder's start. (not to far above his shoulders or below) It should be clasped in the middle pretty tight. My daughter hates it but I put her straps on her pretty tight. I'd rather her be annoyed with me as long as she is safe. Read your car seat manual. Mine says that at 29 in. a new car seat is needed. (My four month old is 96% and she is 26 in.) The car seat I have is a set with the base and stroller. There are car seats that are bigger that are intended for baby's younger than one and under 20 lbs.
The other thing to be careful of is the front seat pushing on the car seat. My husband tends to put his seat back and I noticed that he sometimes pushes her car seat forward a little and it makes her lean forward. (I have to remind him to move it up when he gets in the car). You can change to a bigger car seat now if you would feel more comfortable. As long as it's rear facing and he meets the weight and height requirements which he most likely does. I'll probably change in a couple of months when my daughter outgrows hers.

Usually babies are in infant carrier type carseats clear until 20lbs or 1 year old. They also have the carseats that adjust from 5lbs to 40lbs, a little bit more expensive, but your child will grow with it and be in it for a very long time. I have used both types myself and both have benefits. Good luck!

The carrier car seats are usually good to only about 20 lbs and 26 inches, but check your owner's manual for exact numbers. Try playing with the straps to make him more comfortable. If you're just not happy with it, move up to the convertible car seat, but keep it rear facing until he's a year.

You can use a rolled up burp cloth to prop his head up... but by law he can't go into the bigger car seat until he is 20lbs or 1 years old... he will look uncomfy, but its the law!
