That depends on where you are at in school. If you are just entering college, you can major in education and work on an elementary teaching credential along with your bachelor's degree. If you have already graduated from the first four years, you can enroll in a teacher certification program at any college or university that has one.

It depends on where you live. In Canada you can either go into Concurrent or Consecutvie Education.

Concurrent means you work towards your teaching degree right from the start. From what I know (I'll be applying to Concurrent tomorrow) it's fairly competitive especially if you're aiming for a well known university. In this case you'd need to have good grades as well as activities on the side which relate to teaching.

For Consecutive you work on a different degree first, and then after a few years you get your teaching degree. Whether you get into a teaching program will then depend on your Univeristy grades and not your High School grades (although the program you apply to originally will require certain high school grades).

I don't know how this works in the US or the UK, but I imagine that there's some similarities. I would talk to someone in Student Services or Guidance at your school.

you need to get your bachelors in liberal studies or elementary education. then you take the cbest and multiple subject test. Then after you get your bachelors, you need to get your teaching credential and possibly a masters.

so 4 years for the bachelors, plus another 2 years for a credential
