Well, as far as I know, hamsters are pretty hard to train...here is a website you can look at, I'm not sure if it will be any help to you but it looks like it's an answer to your question...

We had a lot of hamsters when I was a kid. You can train them a little like training a dog. Find out what Rodney's favorite snack is and get it ready. They will train better with finger movements along with your voice. Use inflection. Get him to do simple things. It will take time. The reason we had so many hamsters is because we could not seem to train them to stop walking off the balcony on the second floor. Oh well.

What exactly do you expect a hamster to be able to do? If you have got him a wheel then you can try training him to go round in that. Hamsters find tubes exciting and you can get some cool tubular habitats and things but other than that they gnaw and sleep most of the time. They like having things to nibble on.
I really don't know what hidden talents you think a hamster might have. If you wanted a pet that did tricks then you should have bought a puppy.

Of course you can. You can train him to do tricks, jumping over stuff etc, beg on his hind legs. Its easiest to do this with treats and he will soon learn. A hamsters most sensitive sense his his smell, so to do stuff with food will be the quickest and easiest way to get his attention. Good luck and have fun with Rodney!

Ha.. Yes, if you are very patient. I taught mine to do monkey bars from one side to another, takes a long time though.
