Well the Blu-Ray drive alone props up the cost a lot. Did you know Sony actually loses $240+ on every one of these sold? A blu-ray player on its own costs $1000 at Best Buy. Yes, a video game system for $650 is crazy, but this is the latest and greatest technology and the early adopters are willing to blow this kind of money (and more apparently by looking at eBay) to have this now. It's great that a manufacturer has something available for these people. For the rest of us, wait for a few months, it'll come down in price as chipsets become cheaper and mass production drives down costs.

Think of it as a computer! Its a good price for a computer... also for thoses who didn't buy a ps1 or ps2, its like 3 game systems in one, plus a dvd/cd player. With a XBox 360 you have to get a disc just to run the Xbox1 games. I am going to wait till the price drops a bit, but I don't think the price is too much.

The price is high. I own both a 360 and a PS3. Some Games are exclusive to one system or another. So depending what you like you may be better off. My PS3 cost $750 with tax and the extended warranty. But I have had other 360's that broke down really quickly. I exchanged them but now this one is making noise too. Which ever you deside I highly recommend an intercooler to extend it's life.

People complain about he PS3 price but let's look at it from a different angle.
Take the 360 and PS3. Now let's make them somewhat equal, i.e. pricewise and hd capability by adding the HD add on to the 360. Now you have two systems with High Def capability, and same price, since the HD addon is $200.
360-20 gigs while ps3-60 gigs
360-tri core processor, ps3-8 core processor
360-HD DVD (25 gig limit), ps3-Blu-Ray (50 gig+ limit)...not to mention more motion picture and manufactor support.
Two systems, same price. People complain about the price tag yet you get more for your money with the PS3. And with a technologically superior system, comes greater capabilities. That is why PS3 is king.

The PS3 will be expensive. It, of course, will be better with more capabilities than the 360 and Wii, should cost around $499 to $799. But believe me, it'll be worth it.

well yeah its expensive all gaming systems when they first come out are going to be pricy but eventually will go down after a year or so. it has alot of features including blu ray which is HD-DVD and instead of the red laser that is used in standard dvd players and cd players blu ray is picked up by a blue laser resulting in higher resolution, picture and sound quality

the X360 is only about $200 cheaper than a PS3 right now. It doesn't even come with a next gen DVD player. The PS3 does. Now the X360 is selling their add on HDDVD player for $200 bringing it to just about the same price as a PS3.

The price is definately too much!!!
That is because it"s new & people want it.
Christmas time is here so for a sad reason, people feel like their obligated to buy, buy, buy.People should just think about the more important things in life instead of getting ripped off by rich billionaire manufacturers!
peace out babe!

It's $600 for something that will be obsolete in 5 years. If Sony keeps this up, the Playstation 5 will bankrupt entire nations.
