Two reasons, really:
One, because black women listen to the lie that naturally they are inferior to white women. White women have long silky hair with many different colors, so black women want to look like that; and the easiest (and cheapest) way to do so is to put a weave in their hair. It's a part of cultural hegemony by whites.
Two, it kinda goes back to the slave days. Black women want to look as extravagant as possible because their ancestors were not able to look beautiful because they were slaves. It's part of our culture to look like you have a lot of glitz and glam because black women really have low self-esteem. Getting a weave is a way of feeling pretty and good about yourself.

Well some black people's hair actually looks like that. My hair is naturally thick and wavy, but once i straighten it (without chemicals) it is soft, silky and flowy. Not all black people have the same hair type. Maybe your real gripe should be that some of these women are using cheap synthetic weaves. I know I hate seeing those. I also actually think Ciara has one of the best weaves out there today. Also not everyone wants their natural hair texture. Between me and my friends (of different races) and family we have a lot of texture and it always seems the one with curly hair wants straight hair, the one with straight hair wants to get dreds, the one with the afro wants waves. To each their own!!!!

I don't know. I love Beyonce, she is one of my favorite artists. But, I have seen her with her hair looking a hot mess! But, who am I to judge.
Hopefully one day we'll be able to embrace our natural beauty and forget all the weaves and relaxers. I went natural about a year ago, and I'm soooo happy I did.

Not every black woman with long hair wear weave.
I personally feel that however the woman wants to wear her hair, that's her preference.
BTW, I don't know why Beyonce wears weave because she really does'nt need it.

as far as the celebrities,
i think they have to wear those weaves or wigs to avoid damaging their hair and to create a specific image.
for the rest its probably because the more natural looking a weave or wig gets the more expensive it is.
you are right though
those plastic weaves really, really look hideous, but look at it this way, who ever has it on, probably thinks they look really nice so i guess its really all up to the them

I think they wear them for the same reasons Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Christina Milian, and countless other non-black women wear weaves: because they want to.
If you like to wear your natural hair out, that's your preference, and that's fine. But wearing a weave is what they choose, and that's fine too.
And i don't know about that "plastic looking" part, because even though i know Beyonce and Ciara wear weaves, they look natural...most of the time.

they are IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY THEY CAN NOT BE DAMAGING THEIR OWN HAIR BECAUSE THEIR HAIR ALWAYS HAS TO BE BLOW DRIED ETC WHICH IF IT WAS THEIR REAL HAIR IT WOULD BREAK AN DFALL OUT FROMALL THAT HEAT AND STYLING DAMAGE AND LIGHTING FOMR PHOT SHOOTS ETC.
AND JESSICA SIMPSON AND ALL THOSE OTHER WHITE WOMEN WEAR WEAVES PAM HAD A PIC WITH HER TRACK COMING OUT (EW) SO ANYONE CAN WEAR A WEAVE PEOPLE LIKE TO EXPERIMENT WITH DIFFERENT LENGTHS AND COLORS WITHOUT TAKING THE DRASTIC MEASURE OF DOING THESE EXPERIMENTS TO THEIR OWN HAIR.

Everyone has eyes of their own and what they see as beautiful, you may not. I dont like how I look with Fake hair, but when I'm on Video Camera, I noticed I look better with a wig on than my natural hair.

To each his own. If you don't like it, don't wear it. But please don't knock our sisters down because they do something you don't agree with. Actually, I've seen some very nice weaves on the same people you mentioned. Honey, we have enough haters in the world, we should really take a cue from other races and learn to stick together!
