i got my computer fixed about a month ago. This guy i found in the yellow pages, was able to save my files and reinstall the Operating System, which was apparently the problem. when he brought it back i noticed the copy of windows xp(pro) that he installed had to be registered within 30 days. now that the 30 days are up it will not let me into my computer untill i register it. I tried to register it through the (idiots, who cannot speak english well) Microsoft Windows support number but they cannot speak clearly.....so to my question: How do i extract the files i have in my computer to an external HD, when my computer will not let me in? or how do i install a legal copy of Windows XP without erasing the files i already have on the comp.? (files such as .jpeg, mp3, bmp,psd and so on.)

Why don't you just call back that guy you found in the yellow pages? It is illegal for him to put an illegal copy in your computer, especially if he charged you for it. Well you should be able to just burn your files to cd or dvd or whatever media you are using. You then buy a copy (legal) of win xp from anywhere. Tigerdirect, bestbuy, compusa. Or you can go to www.bitcomet.com and download that and then download an illegal working copy that you never have to register, just beware of viruses.

cant, you might be able to run a repair on xp.. stick ur os cd and reboot when the installer pulls up if it even does then try hitting r for repair.. you should be able to register over the net, if you dont have internet take your hd out and put it in a pc that does or take it some where that does..

It should activate fine, but if it doesn't he might not have used your key code which is illegal. You might want to call him and ask him what key he used.
