I work in a school and have students often install inappropriate screensavers, and would like to be able to permanently block all screensavers from being installed on the computers in the lab. Hope someone can help.

Doesn't your school have a master program to control all the computer in a classroom at once or to view them I believe it is called watcher or something like that.

If using Windows XP, allow them only limited user accounts rather than administrators. This means they not be able to install screen savers unless it already in SCR format. There also a number of hacks that you can apply to XP registry to prevent them or frustrate them from changing the screen saver or other properties.
There are third party software you can install too that will limit them.

Check the links for useful stuff you can do.

If you are in a server environment you can set a group policy in AD to disable all screen savers or to setup a default that can't be changed by a normal user. You can also limit the installation of files. Good Luck
