In the web statistic report hits are showing at over 1500 and hits only 85, so they cant be the same thing.

Sorry I meant 'hits' showing over 1500 and 'visits' only showing 85.

It can be used to mean:

hit = each time a page is visited
visit = only includes each NEW person visiting that page

With a HitCounter, you can visit a page 100 times and be counted 100 times

With a VisitCounter, you can visit the page 100 and only be counted once (until the cookie in your cache expires)

A VisitCounter gives a true representation of unique individuals visiting your page.

There isn't much of a difference. Visits are just when new people have visited a website, and hits count every person that has.

They are really the same thing, but if it says UNIQUE that means that the hit or visit is from a new visitor.

More or less the same thing. They count how many times that page has been visited.

I think a Hit is someone who logs on to it to see what it is all about and a Visit is some one who stays to read and find out more. Of coarse if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell you, coz I'm only guessing.......
