What are the chances of having a c-setion. I'm 7 days overdue. And I started off weighing 121 lbs and I'm about 5'2". I'm still 5'2" but I now weigh 160ish lbs. I'm in a way hoping that I do have one just to skip the pain of labor, just cause my recovery with my daughter was very long with just natural birth. I know to ask my doctor but just wondering people's opinions. My doctors appointment is on thursday.

They will do one, if the child's head is too large, doesn't come down the birth canal properly, of if natural labor would cause baby's or your vitals to drop from a stressfull/long labor. Just go in with No pre concieved notions and let the Dr's advice rules for you baby's and your best interest.

The doc will be able to measure ahead of time to see if you have a baby too big. Other wise they will induce labour, rather than perform a C-section. Surgery is pretty invasive and it will take quite a bit to heal.

It took me three or four weeks before I could even be allowed to drive. I also hurt like all get out from the C-section the first couple of weeks - especially when I was trying to nurse the baby.

By comparision -- It was only two or three days and I was up and running with the other two. (I had them V-BAC). It was really easier to just move and I was allowed to pick the baby up by myself. With the C-section I wasn't allowed to lift the baby for the first month.

If you had a long recovery from natural child birth you need to talk to your doc about your birthing plan. Take into account the need for an episiotomy and wherther it should be performed
before there is any tearing. It helps with healing. Also be sure and have the doctor keep you on a saline drip to keep you hydrated from early on -- a lot of the discomfort is due to dehydration (Those ice chips can only do so much).

Talk with the doc about what the source of difficulty was with the recovery and he will be able to help you better plan ahead of time for max comfort.

Good luck and bright blessings on the little one

All I will say is that I had a c-section and it felt like I was cut in half... and it took 2 months to feel somewhat better.... then for the full year after my son's birth, I would still get pains here and there. Avoid a c-section if you possibly can. I hope to have a VBAC with my next if I"m lucky. I had a 9lb 10oz baby that just wouldn't come down after 19hrs of labor and almost fully dilated, and the last 4 hrs of that my epidural stopped working entirely-so I had to be put under for the c-section since the spinal didn't even work.

Goodluck.

I had two previous natural births..and due to many complications on my end with the second one..my doc has asked me to have a c-section this time around! I also have a lung problem as well! I would say even though your recovery was long with your last child..it will be even longer after a c-section..if I had a choice I would do it naturally again..but it's just not safe for baby or me!! GOOD LUCK & let nature take it's course..besides I doubt your doc will consider a c-section now..she'll probably just think you want to get the baby out lol!! Maybe you should have asked her months ago!

The chances are great but I dont think you want a c-section done because the recovery time is long compared to natural. Not to mention painful. You may not want to go through the child birth pain but believe me you dont want to go through c section recovery. Just ask your doctor because women are usually due 2 weeks before or two weeks after the due date so you may not need a c-section at all. Good luck.

They won't automatically schedule a c-section. First step is an induction. Apparently induced labor is more painful. I had to be induced with my first so I haven't had "natural" labor. But let me tell you, the induction sucked. And if you do have to get induced, it does raise your chances of a c-section, but trust me, after 29 hrs of an induced labor and then a c-section, you will actually suffer more pain and discomfort. Your recovery will be much longer than with a natural birth.
Even now, I'll get dull pains from my incision. It's been 8mos.

They will let you go two weeks overdue, before they even consider it, or atleast the doctors in this area let me go that long! My son was overdue. They induced me twice and nothing, finally they broke my water and induced me more. Nothin happened so I ended up having to have a c-section due to lack of progress. Good luck, considering you had a natural birth the first time, I think you may go natural again, just be patience. I know its hard being that pregnant. :) Good luck giving birth!

They rarely will do c-sections unless they medically need to or if their is a family history of difficult births. C-sections is where the abdominal muscles are cut, so recovery takes longer and is more painful the first few days then recovering from a natural birth.

If you want the c-section, discuss why with your doctor. I can tell you that with my first, a vaginal birth, my recovery took forever! With my second, another vaginal birth and also overdue like you, I was feeling great within a day or two after delivery.

I think they would put you into labor 1st with meds and then breaking your water. The only reason they really do c-sections is if something is wrong with baby or more then 1. My neice just had her baby today with a scheduled c-section because she had one with her 1st son. Some hospitals won't do a vbac after you have had a c-section. I hope you don't have to have one if you haven't already experienced it not too pleasant take it from me I have had one.
