I read all the answers and noticed everyone is telling you your screwed or to just come clean. Well what if you really really don't want to. Here are some suggestions.

You took the final earlier, then when it would have been scheduled right? Tell him that there was a continuance and the date was pushed back or tell him the court date was canceled. Does he know what the court case was about? If you were vague on the details tell him you were just going there to support a friend so YOU wouldn't have any court documents per se. It is not unusual at all for court dates to get changed, so its not that unlikely. Tell him you didn't inform him because you didn't think it was a big deal and you had already taken the test by the time you found out so it was too late. Be warned that you better get all your facts straight and make sure you think of answers to any follow up.
If you really want to get crazy look up the court docket for you local court house and pick a case that was moved back, if you go into a court room sometimes you can grab a docet sheet or some other document to prove you were there or better yet tell him that the case involves a personal and/or embarrassing situation and you cant give out info that might ID the friend or case. Tell him if this was an issue he should have brought it up before he gave his permission to take the earlier final. The possibilities are endless, be forewarned, if you attempt this and fail you may very well get yourself expelled. Its up to you.

What you are talking about is an administrative matter which will be handled internally in most cases by the administration of the school. What action they may take depends on the rules or
by-laws under which the school operates. Best case scenario,
if this is your first time in trouble, they may show leniency, on the
other hand some schools are known to take so called honor violations more seriously regardless of if its a first offense or not.
I suggest that you consult the student handbook for your school,
because that is where the policies of the school will be outlined,
and you'll have a better idea of what to expect.

Why did you lie to take the final early in the first place? You may want to go talk to the teacher in private and explain that you made a mistake and feel badly (if you do), explain why you really did it.

If that doesn't work, try ignoring the request for proof (oops I forgot the paperwork) and see if the problem goes away...Its usually best to just get it over with though, especially if your going to be in the class for awhile.

You shouldn't have lied. But to fix this just tell the teacher that you lied because you wanted to get out of waiting to take the final. Or you could tell them that you were in such a rush to get it over with you thought that lying was the only way the teacher would let you take the final.

Dumbass. Never tell a lie where someone can ask for proof and you can't come up with it!!

Just tell the prof that you spoke with the judge and he has refused to offer you a "note" to get out of class. Say it with a sneer, just like a judge would. Then tell your prof (hoping it isn't a legal prof) that the judge cannot issue such notes or else he would have to do it for everyone. Find a story in the paper that matches yours and direct the teach to it... most aren't going to check you out.

Damn people, if you're going to lie, make sure you do it right!!!!

Tell the professor that the court date was canceled, but you had already taken the final early.

Come clean and take your punishment. As a law professor I would likely dock your grade and report you to the dean. If you didn't come clean (ie I catch you), I would fail you and ask that you be expelled.

Come clean and Tell the real reason (otherwise the professor will suspect you did it to help others cheat)...wanting to go on a ski trip (or the like) is a stupid reason but better then having the professor assume you are cheating.

Ask her what kind of proof she wants. Say it's a private family matter and you shouldn't have to prove anything. Or go over his/her head to a dean saying you have a family matter involving going to court and your professor doesn't believe you and how unprofessional you think it is that he/she is questioning you. Forge a note from your parents.

Doesn't matter what state you live in. If you didn't go to court, you can't produce proof that you did. You're stuck.
