Forget about thinking ... have done and will probably do as long as I live. And not only once!

After I got my private pilot's certificate, I thought about taking a short course in Upset Recovery (essentially learning how to bring the airplane back up to a normal flight attitude after being in unusual attitudes, like inverted, in a spin, etc.
This made me very nervous, but I believe that the best way to deal with fear is to face it if you can.
I went to the Upset Recovery training and man, I had an absolute ball doing it! I learned that as long as you have enough air between you and the ground, flight attitudes that are unusual can be corrected without requiring the skill of a Chuck Yeager, and that aerobatic flight can actually be a lot of fun if you prepare yourself for it correctly.
I believe that that is the key to undertaking any action that is risky: examining the action, understanding what the real, true risk is, preparing for the action in order to minimize the risk, and if possible receiving training in how to undertake the action as safely as possible. Risk can be minimized and safely undertaken by the person who is prepared for it.

I have thought about doing risky things more than once. I think the riskiest thing I've ever actually done was quitting a job without having another one lined up.
