The NFL is too picky to an extent. If you have a good enough chance to stop your tackle, then you should be penalized for tackling. But if you're at full spring, going for the QB and you can't stop, then that's tough luck for the QB. Get a new offensive line. Oh, and the Pats-Dolphins game. Dolphins got a lucky break. Tully Banta-Cain was on the ground after getting knocked down. He was rolling around a little, and Joey Harrington tripped on him. The Dolphins got 15 yards and a score for a bad call. Change the rules.

Yes they are. A perfect example is from the Monday Night Football game with Green Bay and Seattle a couple weeks ago. One of the Packers hit the QB right after he threw the football and they called him for a blow to the head. The guy from the Packers hit him with both hands straight up in the air to show the refs where his hands were.... which was no where near Hassleback's head. The refs should have manditory eye exams twice a year.

Well there definately needs to be some sort of QB protection, but I agree, they have take it WAY too far. The Bengals have lost a couple games from crap rules like that. I remember the Titans game when someone had Vince Young wrapped up, but then let go because he thought Young threw it, and Young just ran for a first down. I think they went on to win the game during THAT drive too. When games are lost over stupid penalties and even just the FEAR of getting a penalty, you know they have taken it way too far.

They have become extremely picky rescently. It used to be you could take two steps after the QB threw the ball, and still tackle him. Now it seems if your shadow touches him you have violated him in some way. GROW A PAIR NFL!

I think they are being way too overprotective of the QB. Too many teams are getting 15 yard personal foul penalties for things that a few years ago where completely legal. A 15 yard penalty for unintentionally touching the QBs helmet while trying to tackle him is too overprotective. It's getting harder and harder on defenses now days, especially on defensive backs. That's why the scores of games are getting higher.

You Bet! Its something different if you are trying to spear or slap a guy on the side of the head...but then again most of these guys are just trying to tackle the guy. The worst has to be "He drove the QB into the ground"...c'mon...thats a tackle...

you ask that question now but when your favorite superstar qb gets hurt think about it again. the qb is the only player to touch the ball (besides the center) 100% of the offensive plays. do you really want to watch a boring suckass nobody qb for a whole game? protecting the qb protects entertainment.

Absolutely they are. I understand helmet-to-helmet hits being outlawed, and I agree with being penalized for late hits, but it's getting ridiculous. Some guys are afraid to even finish their hits. It's very sad.
Could you imagine if LT, Jack Lambert, Deacon Jones or Mike Singletary still played?
