I waited until both my girls were older when it came to getting there ears peirced. Getting a peircing is a big thing! Your making a hole in your body! When you peirce a babys ear. You are doing somthing to the child that it may not even want. Not to mention they can scratch, pull and tug on there ears. Which can cause to infection. Its best to wait until they are little older so they can actualy have a say in weither they want there ears peirced or not. Plus when there older they will be able to remember the experience.

My daughter was 7 when she had her ears peirced. Didnt cry at all!

Can a baby take care of her own ears if they get pierced? Then, no, I don't think it should be done. It's for the parents NOT the baby. A friend/s 7 year old daughter had hers pierced and the back of an earring angled it's way into the back side of the hole and it got infected and she ended up in intensive care and hospitalized for two weeks.

I would never do this to my kids. My ears are not pierced and I am very happy with no ugly holes in them. If I feel like wearing earring, I have a wide choice of clips, so why the holes? Just cause mummy thinks it's cute? If your ears are not pierced, you can always change that if you decide to. Once they are pierced - no choice is left.
Anyway, I do like my boyfriend's ears, though. He had his ears pierced, actually pierced most of them himself about eight times, but he was grown-up at the time and piercing was a matter of choice. I would let my child have his/her ears pierced, but it should be his/her choice, not mummy's.

My wife and I had twin girls back 10 years ago. My wife had their ears pierced when they were like 1. One girl was fine but the other girl got infected. I think we found out that certain ear rings won't work for her. We had to switch her to gold I think. But the little one had a heck of a time till we figured it out. She used to pick at her ears at first too...this might have had something to do with it too. She still has the ears pierced today from back then. Wife kept the alcohol to them.

I had my ears pierced when i was 9 months old! believe it or not! people tend to make a big deal out of it! but i think its the best thing my mum has done for me! And if ure child's gonna get her/his ears pierced later anyway, then u should make sure u do it now! When ure child grows up, its gonna b lot harder for him/her cuz its gonna hurt bad!( unless they invent some new technique or something) As a child, we have really soft skin so they get perced easily without hurting!

I did it when my daughter was six weeks old. I did it so early so a). she wouldnt remember the pain and
b) she wouldnt reach for them or play with them and
c) it was easy for me to clean them coz she couldnt fight me
She has since added 2 more holes in each ear (shes almost 15) and those were horrible to deal with. Got infected and kept getting hair in them. Yep, I think baby is better.

My daughters ears where pierced after she had her vaccines... she was about 8 months old, she's 5 now and she loves picking out earrings....
I say if you agree with it do it when your child is young... I got my ears pierced when I was 13... not fun :( then I got more later on... I don't think any girl has grown up saying mom and dad i hate that you got my ears pierced! I think they would say mom and dad why DIDN'T you get my ears pierced!?
:)

I would say that it should not be done the decision to do this is not the parents. We have no right to mutilate or to alter our children's body's I also feel the same way about circumcision. I know all the arguments about circumcision being for sanitary purposes; but if the child is taught to bathe properly there goes that argument.

They aren't the parents ears to live with...same as the tattoo on a kid...ugh. What if you grew up and had that? I would want to make a decision on my own. However I suppose there are other groups around the world that consider this normal...and the kid would not be the wiser.

I lean towards not doing it.
