A rule of thumb for MP3's is 1 minute of music = 1Mb of space. This is pretty accurate for MP3's encoded at 128k/sec. How many songs this translates into depends on the length of the song. If the average song is 4 minutes then you should be able to get 128 songs on a 512mb memory stick.

Going on 4 minutes for a song with 128kbps MP3 encoding gives you +/- 4Megabytes/song. The memory card will have about 486 usable Megabytes because it needs to be formatted and you can't use those 26 megs of formatted space. Therefore, 486 divide by 4megs=121.5 songs.

Approximately 100, at 128 kbps sampling rate. This is around 8.5 hours of music.
