I am 3 months along and I have a belly which now does not fit into my pants and because of it my shirts are too short. I have only gained 1.5 lbs so far during the pregnancy so it is not from overeating. Is it too early to start wearing maternity clothes?

I started wearing maternity clothes when I started to feel uncomfortable in my regular clothes.. I know some women who start wearing maternity clothes the minute they find out they are pregnant, some don't ever wear them.. they will tug their jeans down some, and wear their husbands shirts. Etc. It depends on you and how you feel. If you are no longer comfortable wearing your normal clothes... go out and buy yourself some really cute maternity clothes... you deserve to be comfortable, and cute. lol. Good luck with your pregnancy.

It's completely up to you when you start wearing maternity clothes. There is no right or wrong. With my first son, I didn't have to get into maternity clothes until the 3rd month...with my current pregnancy, I'm 35 weeks along, and can still get into some of my low-rise jeans, but shirts are impossible. I started wearing maternity shirts at around 5 months. GOOD LUCK!!

As soon as my regular clothes were too tight I switched over to maternity clothes. You'll have plenty of room to go! There is not a specific time when it is right to switch over. Some woman can go through most of their pregnancy in their normal clothes and some (like me) start wearing them almost right off the bat! II always recommend buying a size bigger than you are even in maternity clothes. You don't wear them for that long and it's better to have looser because you never know how big your tummy might get! Good luck with your pregnancy!

Comfort is key.. There are so many cute fashions now that I still have not bought one maternity item. I love those baby doll shirts... so cute and comfortable. I am getting larger sized jeans at the thrift store... My first pregnancy i was in them at 10 weeks along. I am now 16 weeks with my second and just now thinking of checking out some maternity clothes. It's up to you as long as you re comfortable. Good Luck

I agree. Jen, that IS rude. sometimes women just want to talk to other women, especially if it is their first pregnancy. How would you feel? I am sure you have had a question someone thought was stupid too.... anyway, whenever you feel comfortable! A lot of the maternity clothes out are pretty cute, try Destination Maternity. I am almost 17 weeks and put away my reg. pants about a week ago. The difference is really noticeable in how comfortable you feel!

With my first pregnancy I didn't start until 6 months!! (didn't show until later) With my second pregnancy I started at about 4 or 5 months...with this pregnancy I started at 2.5 months because my belly popped really early..I'm now almost 5 months & i've only gained 6 lbs in all!! Guess third times a charm..and the body already knows what its suppose to do!! :)

It's never too early to wear anything maternity really. If you aren't fitting your clothes/panties, then it is time. I never wore any, I just bought bigger underwear but then again I am overweight. Whatever is comfortable for you and you need more room then get the clothes. Don't get anything big, get your size (pre-pregnancy; small, medium, etc.) because you may not gain that much weight and you don't want them hanging off of you.

You start wearing maternity clothes when your natural internal anatomy runs our of room and the uterus has to expand out of the abdominal cavity, causing your normal clothes to feel uncomfortable.

There is no set month, or time for when this should happen. Its when you cant comfortably wear your regular clothes.

For me it was about 3-4 months. by 3 months I had to switch to skirts and fat pants, because the regular pants were too tight around the waist.
