Eugene Cernan (Commander of Apollo 17) was the last to walk on the moon. Harrison "Jack " Schmitt was the first to step back into the LEM after 3 days of EVA (ExtraVehicular Activities . Schmitt was also a geologist and the first and only scientist to walk on the moon. He was the last to step onto the moon after Cernan when they first arrived.

Eugene Cernan was the last person to step off the Moon, but Jack Schmitt always maintains that he was the last person to _set foot_ on the Moon, as he followed Cernan from the lunar module, Challenger!
