This trend is quite a concern.I think there may be multiple reasons.
A lot of mums see thier daughters as an extention of themselves so, whether intentional or not, selecting their 5 to 12 tyr olds clothes as" mini me" versions.Sometimes how they would love to dress but are now unable.
I will give them the credit of doubt, when it comes to the dangers of exploitation and other dangers that the child is being placed in.
As I am sure a lot just don't get it,or maybe ignorance is bliss?Until disaster stikes home!
The stores should also be held more accountable.
For if you look at the stock in department stores. There is virtually no difference between the styles for a 16 to 20 yr old that of the little kids. With nothing much in between.
In a time when schools are banning sports events etc. from being photographed or filmed by anyone including parents, and we are aware of children being photographed unknowingly on beaches, in playgrounds and even playing on the sidewalk in front of thier homes. Then parents that dress their daughters as "hoochie mamas" are just irresponsibe. The media and especially the soft porn video pop market, must also carry a great deal of blame.
But the sad fact is, that fashion or rather lack of it in the dressing of children is not regarded as child abuse or neglect.
I'm sure it would and does only encourage those with a predisposition to sexually abuse children,in this case girls, and add to many home libaries of kiddie porn.
Sad days!

I see everything wrong with the way kids dress. It has a lot to do with T.V. and all the sex in the world. Come on can you really tell me a good answer as to why Victoria Secretes is on T.V. like this? Just soft porn. I have to admit tht if i see a girl dressing well beyond her age, I tell her. If her parents are ther i tell them what the hell do they think they are allowing her to dress like that. They usually give me some sort of song and dance how all her friends are dressing like that and they want her to fit in. i tell them well when she 'fits in' you can be taking care of the baby when she's 16. Or younger. I am very petite at 36 I look like I am 16 (sucks) and I tell you the clothes out there are rediculous. I do not want to wear hip huggers that I have to buy panties that barely fit and down to my hips and bell bottoms? Don't get me started, I wore them when I was a kid. The baby doll shirts barely cover what God forgot to give me more of. And for Christ sakes it is winter here. Hello freezing temperatures and there out there wearing summer clothes. i would like to line up the parents and smack them all in the back of the head. Thw way this world is going every girl is going to look the same. if your not born with boobs you can buy them, girls are dying their hair blonde, they all wear about the same type of clothes. There is no differency any more. My son's female friend just turned 13 and her parents got her boobs done for a birthday present. I wanted to choke them. She isn't fully grown yet. This world sucks. Ok, I'll shut up now because I could go on and on.

Ever seen Britney, Christina, or Hillary?

They take after their role models. If the role model was conservative and classy, they might do the same. But they are out to shock people or add that sex appeal to their music and their look, so the children want to emulate that. Plus the kids seem to have grown up faster in today's society. They seem to be losing their innocence earlier.

By the way, I bet you a similar question was probably being asked by people in the fifties when the two piece bathing suit came out, or when the miniskirt was introduced.

It just takes a lot more to shock us nowadays...like 12 year olds wearing dental floss to the beach...

I see everything wrong with it. Children need to be children and then there is the fact that there are so many pedophiles out there. It is not cute at all. Yet, I think that part of the problem is that is what the see in these videos and it becomes their perception of what boys like. All I know is my god daughters will not be allowed to dress like that.

because their parents let them out of the house like that. Yes, definitely wrong, too young to be dressing like that, no one should be dressing like hoochie mamas - keep it in the bedroom.

Well lets see......the catwalks are usually full of half dressed skeletons. Videos are full of half dressed hoochies. No one is taking the initiative to be adults anymore. Thirty somethings with children are acting like children themselves...........I can go on, but I don't think there's a need!

lack of self-worth, self-value. They feel the only way to get attention or be worthy is to reveal as much of themselves as they can. Better parenting. Do the parents not see how vulnerable these kids are and the loss of their innocence? They are becoming sexualized at such a young age! We wonder why 1 in every 3 girls are raped! I am not condoning the rape but we must protect ourselves.

Because their parents are too busy worrying about letting little Suzie make her own choices in life. Too bad little Suzie is an eight year old who has no idea what the implications are of dressing like a 'ho.'

Be parents for crying out loud and help your kids make wise choices in life.

I have noticed it. I saw a girl, couldn't have been more than 10, wearing the shortest mini skirt I have ever seen. You could see her bum. Why on earth would the parents let their children go out of the house like that?

It's "Girl Power" apparently remember the spice girls.

They are learning how to manipulate people using their "Girl Power"

Is it digusting to see a 12 year old girl plastered in cheap make up dressed like a prostitute..? I think so but then in some countries they are actually prostitutes.
