What would it be?

I love peoples response.

I see that there are lot of Rap and Hip-Hip bashing. And although I am not a Rap fan, I dont think it should go away all together. The problem today is, there is so much great "underground" music we never hear. Mainstream "MTV" music is full of Rap and Hip-Hop and just any kind of music that has no meaning. I think its catching up to people that main-stream music isnt MUSIC anymore. Music should touch the heart and soul, and todays mainsteam music just doesnt do that. Rap takes alot of the blame. I used to be a rap listener until the likes of Lil' Jon and these bone heads became popular.

What would I change? I would put the meaning of music back into music today. I would flip the mainstream scene. I would get rid of these "clowns" and replace them with people who really have a feel for music and infuse their songs with meaning.

But thats just me

I'd like to hear more sophistication, better melodies, and more intelligent lyrics. I grew up listening to the great progressive bands like Yes, Genesis (before they went pop), Rush, and King Crimson. There are only a few newer bands that still have the skill and courage to play that kind of music (like Dream Theater and Spock's Beard) but you never hear them on the radio.

I just wish that more of it would come from the heart. Im all for the music that is just for entertainments sake but the scales are tipped too far in that direction. Wheres the music thats actually saying something, the music that moves you, that makes you feel something real.

I would make every person at the moment they sign a record contract sit down and watch Led Zepplin's The Song Remains the Same. At least they would know what to strive for
