If the owners of a business feel that they want to decorate for the season then yes. The Christmas or Yule tree has deeper roots than just Christmas. I am 36 and a Gnostic.

A tree or a tree decorated?

Ask Jeremiah:
Jeremiah 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
Jeremiah 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jeremiah 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

My name is Christy and Im 40 going on 20! I just get soooo tired of everyone screaming and fussing over all the little things! Some people think money should NOT say in God we trust. Some dont weant prayer in school. Some yell about certain toys cuz they r religious. Some scream about the flag. Geeze! Just let people live and practice freedom that we r soooo sooooo luicky to have in the USA! If they dont like things- dont look and dont buy them! Noone is forcing anyone to buy anything! Just keep walking! Its one day a year that people treat each other with kindness which it should be like every single day so enjoy it while its here!

Of course they should. One of the major beauties of the US constitution is Freedom of Religion. And that means that if I display a Manorah or a Tree, its my choice! The freedom to express my personal beliefs also applies by way of Freedom of Speech.

Now, when it comes to businesses, decorations are up to the business owners, again expressing their religion or beliefs. I heard on Today this morning that more than 95% of people believe that expressions like Merry Christmas are appropriate.

This isn't minority rule! Minorities are accepted and appreciated but they don't get to elect a president or tell me what decorations I can display.

I don't believe the government should, unless they're going to display items for other religions - It's all or none. But yes, I believe businesses should have the right to express their beliefs and display a Christmas tree if they choose, or a menorah, and such. It's nice if they're all-inclusive, or try to be, but there's nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas. Unless they're a fire-hazard.

I'm twenty.

Alex 17.. Yes, Christmas trees should be displayed in public. && it's completely ridiculous to think that they shouldn't be. You don't have to celebrate Christmas but you shouldn't bring everyone else's spirit down- it's not hurting anything to display your pride or your religious affiliation if you're not repressing anyone else..

it is irrelevant. This is not an opinion, FACT: Christmas trees are A PAGAN symbol of eternal life (they don't loose their green in the winter)

I grew op in a Christian Reformed household and was not allowed to have a christmas tree - for that reason.

Of course, if a busness wants to display a tree they are more than welcome to do so. If they wanted to have a hanukah display they can. If they wanted to have a wiccan display they can. If they wanted to have a banner that said "There is no god", they can.

Now to the opinion portion of this answer: Yes they should. Some decide not to because they don't want to offend.

Simple answer: in this culture at least as I've known it Christmas trees are displayed and wishing one another a Merry Christmas is not frowned upon. If a person from another culture wishes to partake, fine if they don't, then don't expect to be deferred to in this culture. Why is it when Westerners travel to other countries that we are expected to abide by whatever restrictions are imposed upon us, but in our own countries we are expected to defer to other cultures? Reverse discrimination is just as unacceptable here as in other places.
