All of those old wives tales aren't necessarily true. At first, everyone thought that I was having girl because I was carrying high. When the sonographer told me and my husband what the sex of our baby was, it was a boy. She told us at 18 weeks and again at 30 weeks -- still a boy.

Oh when everyone tells you that you're eating for two, you really aren't. Your baby is so small and doesn't need nearly as much as you do. Don't ever listen to anyone that tells you to eat more.

I'm not sure if this is 'common wisdom' or not, but my family (husband excluded) seems to think that since I'm pregnant (and I should mention that I'm only 11 weeks along) I am unable to perform any basic chores that involve heavy lifting. For example, they totally freaked out when they found out that I shoveled the other day (we live in Wisconsin - huge snowstorm about a week ago.) It irritates me to no end. My mom and aunt both think that I am now unable to do my laundry, shovel snow, pick up my nieces and nephews, basically anything that involves lifting anything over 5 pounds. I asked my doctor about this (because I weight lift) and he said it's nonsense. Now my question is - how do I get my mom to believe this?!

Most of the "common wisdom" I got was after my pregnancy but I heard one that said that a pregnant woman should never reach over her head because it might cause the baby to come out early or cause changes in the baby or something dumb like that.

Don't know if this counts, but everyone told me the more heart burn I had, the more hair my baby would have. HA! My first daughter was completely BALD until she was 2 1/2 and I had heart burn EVERY NIGHT!
