Im a mets fan, but it seems as though zito and mulder are both gonna sign with texas. If so, who else is out there for the mets to sign. We need one more proven pitcher to complete the rotation for the first half of the season before pedro martinez returns. The only possible suitors i see out there are suppan, weaver, and armas. Any ideas? Maybe even some trade scenarios. Dontrelle Willis seems like the only big name out there, but i dont think the marlins are gonna budge. Thanks for the answers people.

Mets are the front runners at this point.

I would rather see the Mets go out and make a trade for Dontrelle Willis or Ben Sheets. Zito is good, but the Mets need more of a power arm than a finesse pitcher. But in the end, if the do sign him, I hope they don't overpay for him. I would give Weaver and Suppan a look as well. Weaver has a lot of heart and has pitched in New York before. He may also benefit from the tutoring of Peterson.

I have a feeling that the Muts are going to sign Zito. I think Omar is playing a waiting game to see what kind of offers Boras gets. Boras plays teams against themselves to get the most money for his players. I think Texas will bow out if the stakes get high. They've learned their lesson from A-rod. I was hoping to see the Yanks make a pitch but after signing Pettite, which was a good move, the home team backed off. You still may see them move Pavano and try for Dontrelle Willis. They have the young arms band Melky to trade if it comes down to it.,

Why does everyone worry about picking up a big name free agent? What's wrong with promoting from within? I saw Pelphry's big league debut (I was at the Marlins/Mets doubleheader) and that kid can throw. I'm not a Mets fan, but I know enough that the Mets have some decent arms. What about moving Heilman into the rotation? He could be a quality starter on most teams, yet the Mets bury him in the bullpen...

I'm a dodgers fan, but would love to see the Mets sign Zito, that is of course if he doesnt sign for us (which is unlikely).
If the mets got a Class starting pitcher they will be awesome!

I'm a Barry Zito fan and I hate the Mets but I believe he will sign with the Mets

Zito is ok, but he is not going to bring a pennant to any club who signs him. If he were that great, he'd have been signed long before now with a contender. That he has not been signed shows that the interest in him is tepid at best.

Chow!!

The Texas Rangers have already made him an offer but he hasn't made a decision on it yet.
