I work part time in the evenings at a store and all my coworkers are women. They started telling me that another coworker came to work with a hangover the other day. The problem? She's PREGNANT!!! We're not sure how pregnant she is. She got engaged on Thanksgiving and claims she got pregnant right after. But, we all think that she was probably pregnant before that and that's why she got engaged. So, we're guessing she's about 4 or 5 weeks along. She claims that she can drink for the first 2 months of her pregnancy. Everyone at work thinks she's nuts! I was so upset when I heard that she drank to the point of having a hangover. And she's a frequent drinker, so it's not like she had a sip and was buzzed. She had to drink A LOT! Why would someone risk the health of their baby? Is anyone else upset hearing this? Okay, this is more of a rant than a question. I can't believe how stupid some people are!

Sadly I know many women that do this. I knew a woman that was in her last month that was still getting drunk every weekend.
The younger women that do not want to get pregnant, think it will help abort the baby- Sometimes God is nice and lets them have a healthy baby, other times, you will have a FAS baby-
It is very upsetting that women do this to their child- Sadly I concider myself borderline on the subject for my 3rd baby- I wasnt sure if I was prego or not, so took a test and came back negative, but my body was giving me signs I was. I still got drunk all week, bought a second test and actually took it while I was drunk, this one came bacl positive- I did not drink any more after I saw that, but have been so scared about having a baby with FAS or FAE-
it was hard quitting drinking cold turkey, but worth it- sometimes I sip off of a friends beer, usually every other month.

I understand how hard it is to give up alcohol. I was used to having a drink everyday (not an alcoholic - I just enjoy wine). I'm now 11 weeks preggo and it's still hard not to drink. I heard that you can have a glass of wine every once in a while in your third trimester - but the first trimester is definitely out! It is during the first 12 weeks that all the important organs - including the brain! - are developing. Shame on your coworker for acting so reckless.

That is wrong wrong wrong. The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are when you should keep any and all chemicals out of your body, especially alcohol. If she doesnt miscarry from what she is doing. Her child will be born with alcohol fetal syndrome and it will follow that child the rest of its life. Im not sure of all of the problems that go along with FAS but I know you can tell someone has it just by looking at them.
Eyes tend to look too far apart and give the person a very strange appearance.

Yes this does upset me, i dont know why women like her are even able to get pregnant. I did get drunk the week before i found out i was even pregnant, i would have been about 5 or 6 weeks along, and i felt horrible even though i didnt even know. I just dont understand how people could risk something like that.....she doesnt deserve to be a mother.

Thats horrible!
Its true that the baby doesnt develop the placenta until about the 8-10th week, and until then its not connected at all to your blood supply.... but thats an AVERAGE!
you cant know when that blood exchange starts to happen unless you have an ultrasound every day.
Thats a very very dangerous fence to be walking.
I have two cousins, theyre brothers, one has severe learning problems, the other has learning problems and a missing eye from fetal alcohol syndrom. My friend's mom was an alcoholic and drank whens he was pregnant with him.. and he was born without a leg.
Thats just so incredibly horrible. I feel so bad for that baby.

This woman is an idiot. If she knows she's pregnant, I cannot comprehend what is going on in her mind that tells her this is okay. Someone needs to speak up and inform this moron that she is killing her baby.
