Although it might look like you can just plug headphones into a guitar (plug will actually fit) you won't hear anything. You will need to either get an amp that has a headphone output or buy a headphone amp.

No, most real guitars, nice quality guitars, do not include a head phone jack on the actual guitar. Now a lot of amps will, usually your cheaper ones. I suggest buying a nicer guitar, as cheap ones don't sound as good, and are harder to play, and will discourage you from containing learning. Also, invest in a nicer amp, one with a great tone, cheaper amps don't sound as good. You don't have to play it at 11. And never, ever buy a guitar or amp before you play the actual one you want. This means don't buy online or from a catalog. Each one feels different, plays different, you need to know what best suits your hands. An American Strat is a nice guitar to start out with, but eveyone and their mother has a Strat. I'd go for something Gibson, but that's just my personal opinion.

THe first two answers to this question are inaccurate, i assure you. I have played for 13 years, and yes, there are some guitars out there with this on it. And also yes, most amps do come with a headphone jack. and a standard jack output is 1/4", not 1 1/2".

all guitars have a jack on them....that jack goes to a 1 1/2 inch plug that sticks into an amp or preamp and then into a speaker or headphones.
