Pico is the only one correct so far!
Diana actually agreed the dropping of the title, after all she was only entitled to it whilst she was married to Charles.
In more recent times, HRH The Duchess of Kent, asked The Queen if she would consent to let the Duchess drop the HRH and become Catherine, Duchess of Kent or "Mrs Kent" as she is known to the special needs children she teaches music. The Queen, gave Her consent to this. Who says all the Royal Family have it too easy, here is an example of one member of the Royal Family who is modest, hard working and is quite content to be out of the limelight.

After she and Charles divorced, she became known as Diana, Princess of Wales, not Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales as she was known before. She got to keep the title Princess of Wales as part of the divorce agreement, but lost the HRH.

When she married Prince Charles, she'd became HRH Princess of Wales. People con't to call her Princess Diana because they assumed she was a princess because she married a prince. She is not a princess in her own right (unlike Princess Anne, the Queen's daughter), but by marriage. And she lost the title of HRH when she got divorced. People called her princess Diana because they were use to it. And she was the mother of the king. But according to the royal family, she was not a princess

I believe her formal title after the divorce was Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, and she was still in the line of succession between Charles and William.

She only lost the HRH part but she stayed Diana, Princess of Wales. She was sometimes known more commonly as 'Princess Diana' which was not ever official because she was not actually a 'real' princess.

I think she kept the title of Princess, because Camilla is not known as Princess Camilla. To the one who said she became Lady Diana. She was Lady Diana before she married Charles.

She kept her title because she is Williams Mother, but she was and is no longer referred to as Her Royal Highness. And when Fergie Divorced She lost that as well as her Princess title and is now the Former Duchess of York.

She was stripped of her Her Royal Highness title when she divorced so technically she was not still a princess.
