my floor and I am soooo tired of cleaning up after them, not to mention the vaccum bags I go through in the process, it would be much easier and cheaper to just sweep the dust from the garage floor. They would be out of the wind, but still it's cold in Michigan right now, so I am not sure what kind of temperatures they can withstand, and if it is too cold, are there any suggestions on making it so that they can be in there comfortably, or how I can minimize mess in the house

Rabbits do fine in the cold as long as they're out of the elements. So, yes, the garage would be fine. I would suggest getting a cage w/ a wire bottom and tray so they aren't just running loose around your garage.

Also, you either have a Holland Lop or a Mini Lop. Hollands are the smaller of the 2 and they get to be about 3lbs.

It depends on how cold it gets in your garage. Some garages are protected from the wind enough that rabbits can be safe in them. I live in Ohio and I know a lot of breeders around here have their hutches in the garage. Make sure the temperature doesn't drop too low (I would say it needs to at least stay above freezing, but you might want to double check that) and make sure they have a shelter inside each of their hutches with plenty of straw to bed down in and to help insulate from the cold.

Probably too cold. What sort of set up do you have now? Specificaly, why are you using saw dust? My rabbits use care fresh in their litterbox and their cage (actually 3 story condo I built) has wooden floors and no sawdust). The biggest mess I have is hay and that isn't bad at all. Additionally, we use a Dyson for clean up so there are no bags.

Good luck to you and your bunnies.

Unless you want to have frozen, dead rabbit popsicles for pets, keeping your rabbits in the garage is a very bad idea. If you want to keep the shavings off you floor go to a local hard ware store and purchase some sturdy plastic sheet, about 4 inches wide, and however long your cage diameter is. Get some plastic ties too. Then go home and secure it around the cage to keep the shavings in. Good luck with your bunnies!!

The garage is too cold. It would be abusive and dangerous to put them out there.

Sawdust is horrible for their respiratory systems. Give them a litter box, and I'll bet they'll start using it right away.

If you can't provide a better home for your rabbits (ie. bring them inside, provide a litter box and free time out of the cage) you should not have them as pets.

Why not litter train your rabbits and dispense with the wood shavings instead of forcing them out into the garage with little human interaction? Or, failing that, switch to a litter that is not so easily kicked out, like Yesterday's News or Cell-Sorb.

Personally I wouldn't as it will be pretty cold out there. Have you tried changing their bedding? Sawdust is pretty messy without them digging and keep in mind, rabbits are diggers by nature, using sawdust gives them the perfect material to play in! Try using hay as it's not quite so easy to dig out and much easier to clean up.

Rabbits are indoor pets. Don't force them out into a garage.

Rabbits need to be litter trained. You can use Carefresh, Cell Sorb, or Yesterday's News. And make sure your rabbits have timothy hay 24/7.

you should ask them where they want to be, and then take their advice...I'm sure they will be happy wherever they are, bc they are living with you! and if they get cold, they can wear a mini rabbit sweater :) myspace message me today before u add me so i know who you are! myspace.com/danisrodman ... ttyl ;)
