The Filet-O-Fish is a fish sandwich sold by McDonald's since 1963. It was introduced by a McDonald's franchise in Cincinnati, in response to declining sales at restaurants on Fridays, due to the Catholic practice of not eating meat on Fridays. It contains a breaded fish patty made from Pollock or Hoki, half a slice of processed cheese and tartar sauce, on a steamed bun. It has become popular with people who cannot eat the other meaty burgers on offer, particularly Muslims who cannot eat non-Halal meat.[citation needed] The fish patty size was increased 50% in 1996 during the Arch Deluxe marketing, and remains at the larger size today.
In some non-English-speaking countries, it is called a FishMac or a McFish.[citation needed]
In some areas of the U.S. around the time of Lent, there is a "2 for $3" deal and even a "Double Filet-O-Fish" sandwich.
In 2006, McDonalds launched an entertainment website dedicated to Filet-O-Fish. [1]

well, chicken Mcnuggets are "leftover" parts of a chicken. And by left over, i don't mean leg, thigh, or breast. I wonder myself what fish that is. The only FRESH and REAL fish I've eaten w/out bones would be catfish, tilapia, tuna, and salmon. Filet of Fish certainly doesn't fall under any of those categories.

The scraps of a lot of left overs.. it is very low quality... and to make it worse it is breaded and deep fried... if you ever watch the documentary "Super Size Me" you may not want to eat at Mc Donalds.

I think it's processed fish bits (meaning the leftovers from whatever falls off the fillets). Yuck.

Well, I know Burger King uses pollock, I suspect McDonalds does too. Tastes like it.

It is called the McFish.. It is a hybrid between something that is not fish and something else that is not fish... then they add fish taste and bread crumb.
