I go with first impressions, and I like the way it sounds together. It belongs together.

You asked soooo, yes Eden is wayyyyy too girly. If it were his middle name and he were going to be "Bob" it might be one thing. But to have it as the middle AND call him "Eden" it is a whole new ballgame. Seriously, you might as well just call him Jane. What about something like Elijah, Ean (spelled horribly but still better than Eden), Aiden, Adam, etc? There are SOOO many choices that wouldn't get him beaten up on a regular basis. Momma, you gotta stand your ground on this one!!! Esp. since it doesn't sound like you had any say in the first name.
BTW, it is OK to break tradition.

The only Eden I know is a very big strapping masculine male so I don't see it as feminine, but then if you have doubts maybe look at alternatives. Most babies grow into their name. Robert is a good name too so you could always switch if you weren't happy. Or else do what my sis in law did. She gave her son 3 christian names and then called him by a nickname!

I've heard of Eaton before as a guy's name. I guess Eden would be a diminuitive of that. But honestly, just Eden does sound somewhat effeminate. He might get picked on some in school, but who doesn't...
I would wonder why your husband wants to name his son Eden anyway.
But...I guess it would be alright, thinking about it. Not too bad in the grand scheme of things compared to many other names he could pick.

I think it is a little girly following such a strong name like Robert. When i was thinking about names for my son i tried to think about what would get him beat up or made fun of in school. My Husbands middle name is Francis and it is tradition to have that as a middle name. My husband was called St. Francis the Sissy all through out school and i did not want that to happen to jack. I am a big fan of strong masculine names for boys so we named our son Jackson Armato Zinna (my husband is itialian) because armato is a family name and it is so macho. Good luck

Being a school teacher for 7th grade for the last 12 years, here is my honest opinion: DO NOT name your SON Eden. Too many girls have that name now, and he may be teased mercilessly. It reminds me of that country song about a Boy named Sue. Sorry!

sounds great- first thought was of adam in the garden of eden. Robert Eden is a great first/middle combo.
