India gained its independence from the UK in 1947. After that, the states that had a majority of moslems did not want to be part of the largly Hindu India. THey broke off and formed West Pakistan (Pakistan) and East Pakistan (Bangledesh). Then the tow enclaves realized that the physical difference between the indus valley and the bay of bengal were too far apart and became Pakistan and Bangledesh respectively.

Not exactly sure, but I know that India and Pakistan are fighting over who controls the region of Kashmir.
