I have a whirlpool dryer and when I went to start it this morning it wouldn't turn on and just makes a faint buzzing sound when I press the start button. The door is firmly shut and the lint is all cleaned out and I don't know what to try next. Just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and might know what it is and if it's something that I can fix myself. Thanks!!!

Thanks everybody! But does anyone know where I can find a website that shows you how to make these repairs?

try turning the knob slightly and then restarting it...you may have the knob just a hair on the previous cycle where it was finishingif indeed the belt is broken do not fret...the belt will cost about 15.00 and can easily be replaced by you with only a screwdriver needed

Sometimes lint and other stuff gathers INSIDE the dryer. This happened to my parents dryer on a couple of occasions. They took the back apart and cleaned all of it out with a shopvac. They do it once a year. If not, it's like the others said, a belt or something.

well....maybe ghosts? I believe in them; my house is haunted but it's not too bad. When kids are young they are able to 'see' spirits that no ne else can, so my brother who was 8 at the time would scream every night at exactly 10:58 o' clock because he saw a man walk past his bed and into my room. Just tell them to go away and go to the light; god will forgive them it's better up there. They'll eventually leave if your house is haunted, My little brother doesn't scream anymore after my dad said every night to go to the light.

I have had things caught in the drum on the inside before and when i got it out it worked just fine. Make sure there is not a coin or something on the inside preventing it from turning. My dryer buzzed when this happened.

I had a motor seize on me once that sounded like what's happening to you. Maybe a belt issue.

It's usually a quick and cheap service call. Unless the cute guy a few doors down might take a look just to have an excuse to talk to you. Get someting out of it! Call more than one. Line them up.

Then call the real service guy in none of that works out for you.

If it makes a buzzing sound this could mean that the tumbler has become unbalanced. If your dryer is under warranty I would call the company to come look at it.

sounds like a bad timer switch.. you need to call a repair service.
they may charge you less to sign an extended warranty than the price to make the single repair. I know sears will do that.

Mine does the same thing. Your heating element is burnt out. I did a quick fix on mine w/a sodder gun and stretched the coils out to reconnect them. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you know what you're doing. Changing the element isn't too terrible to do, but you do have to get behind it and take off the back.

Sounds like your timer may have gone bad, or the belt that turns the tub may be broken. Call the repairman. Sorry.

Call for a repair, one of the belts might be broken.
