1.) 28x + 40 = 27x - 15 + 20
x = -35

2.) x = dvd, y = vcr; 3x = y (3 times as many would not create an inequality expresson as the # of dvd's varies directly with the # of vcr's)

3.) 2 = -50x
x = -1/25

4.) x = 8

Something tells me, you've got it wrong. What's the 4 for?
7x10=70 3x9=27 4divided by 7 can't be done, nor can 2 divided by 5 because only a higher number can be divided. 17 divided by 4=4.25.

1)28x+40=27x-15+20
28x+40=27x+5
28x-27x+40-40=27x-27x+5-40
x= -35

2) #VHS players=V #DVD players=D
V is greater than or equal to 3D

3) x= -25
