okay these guys are not very similar to any of the above bands but the greatest country band out now is a little band from detroit called Blanche. they have a myspace page with some songs on it. their website www.blanchemusic.com has some videos and free downloads of songs from their first album "if we can't trust the doctors" they have a new 5 song EP out now called "what this town needs" their new full length record will be out in jan/feb of '07 called "little amber bottles"
the pedal steel player and banjo player and guitarist/singer appeared on the 2003 loretta lynn record "van lear rose"
the banjo player also plays the bass in a band you might know called the raconteurs. the lead singer/guitarist played luther perkins (johnny cash's guitarist) in the move "walk the line" he also played guitar on all the songs used in the soundtrack.
Blanche... are a very dark eerie country band, they way country music should be. please check them out. enjoy.

Being a huge fan, I have very few country artists that I don't like.

If you like Sarah Evans, you might like Alison Krauss...I especially liked the song "Whiskey Lullaby" that she sang with Brad Paisley...
