Well personally I see nothing wrong with it, as a 17 year old guy. When I was a teenager (a younger one) it would be see as slightly odd (ok, VERY strange) but people just grow up I guess. Though I would expect the umbrella to be a normal black one, or one of those large golfing ones. Personally I HAD two normal black ones that broke, and some of my friends (bear in mind im still only 17) saw it as strange. Nothing wrong with it, well unless its a BNP brolly or a pink flowery one (which looks rather sad when women have one as it is)

Male ... it all depends on the umbrella. if I am holding a pink HELLO KITTY umbrella I would think that is a little girly, however if it is a golf umbrella I would think that it is just trying to stay out of the rain.

The black umbrella is one of the key symbols of your stereotypical English Gent. Bowler hat, pin striped suit, and black umbrella. Nothing wrong with umbrellas at all. (And if it has a sword hidden in the handle, like John Steed from the Avengers, then even better!)
Male.

I think using an umbrella is fine for a guy. It's better than getting soaking wet. But if you're with a girl, always make sure she's covered too.
I'm female

I am female and think it is perfectly fine for a man to use an umbrella. My husband wears a suit and tie to work every day. I don't see how it is girly for him to want to keep his clothes dry.

I don't think it's girlish at all. Maybe some do because of the whole "Mary Poppins" thing. Who likes to get soaking wet when their headed to work. I would no more question someone wearing a raincoat to keep from getting drenched. As I would someone for winter boots to keep their feet warm. Female

I'm female and it's just common sense. You've heard the expression "He hasn't got the sense to come in out the rain"
Well there's the answer.
