I work in the medical field, and this a common question. Some patients will get upset if a Physician does not prescribe an antibiotic for their common cold.
Most people don't understand the differences between bacterial infections and viral infections (which you have). Bacterial infections can be cured with antibiotic. Whereas viral infections cannot.
My recommendations is to take some over the counter medications to help ease your symptoms. Remember, these will not help the virus to pass quickly, it will just make it a bit more tolerable. Oh, and lots of rest and vitamins.

One thing I recently learned that has really helped me is about taking vitamin C, but not just any ol vitamin C. What people dont realized is that most vitamin C you get in stores, is asorbic acid, it says so on the label. Asorbic acid is a synthetic vitamin C, not a natural form. The body absorbs vitamin C much more efficiently in its natural form. Go online and look for Vitamin C tablets that are made from Camu Camu berry. This fruit has the strongest amount of natural vitamin C known and your body absorbs it much better. I found bottles for around $10. Ever since I started taking these, I have not gotten anything more then a mild 99% temp in almost 2 years. Plus I just generally feel better and more alert. IF you feel like your starting to get sick, just start taking double doses of this, and it will go away much quicker.

No cures as of yet, but just make sure you exercise, maintain a healthy diet, drink lots of water and wash your hands after touching anything when not at home.

I used to use Zicam, which really seemed to help. But, I just read about a lawsuit, in which people are suing the manufacturer, because the zinc has caused them to lose either their sense of smell or their sense of taste or both.
