They are probably fruit flies. If you leave ripe fruit out in a bowl or if you leave banana peels in open garbage containers, they will multiply like crazy. Keep those fly-attractors out of your house. They will die off and there will be no next generation of them.

Make a beer trap. Pour a couple of ounces of beer in a jar. Make a funnel out of paper and tape it to the jar so that the small end is an inch or two above the beer. Be sure the sides are tight against the mouth of the jar. The gnats will check in but they won't check out!!

Gnats are attracted to fruit. Do you have a bowl of fruit out? Maybe vegetables or fruit that is over ripe or starting to go bad.

they also like standing water. do you have houseplants? check the saucers.
