wrong area for this question,this is computer security. any way they are built on what we will call a skid plate.they are allowed to slide back & forth on these plates so they wont crumble.if you look up under a bridge when you go under one you will see a simuler form of this on the legs where they conect to the concrete piers.this is so they sway & and not break apart.hope this gives you some insite.

There are quite a few ways, rollars are only one way:-
* Metal crossings (can't remeber what their called) connecting to each side of the building are also used
*A special type of shock absorbing wall to stop the building swaying
*Pistons are also added around the building to aborb the energy from the earthquake

They are build on giant rollers to absorb the shaking. The building and rollers give with teh vibrations rather than just falling down...
