I'm not positive on the faking of death part, unless of course there is life insurance involved, then that insurance fraud. But the reinventing oneself is definitely illegal. It would require you to get a new social security number, birth certificate, etc... all of which would require falsified documents which is illegal. If you really feel like you need a new start, then just move away from where you are and start new. If no one there knows you, you can be whoever you want.

I believe so, especially if the attempt is for monetary gain. Also, the government likes to keep tabs on people, and it would make it difficult to do so when people create new identities. Considering that in order to create a new identity, you'd need to forge some new documents, mainly a birth certificate. I do believe that is illegal as well.

YES IT IS!!!! We just had a guy here that was sentenced to 27 years in jail for the exact crime. The only legal way to do it is enter the witness protection program. Go snitch on a mafia leader and your'e on your way to a new identity!! LOL

Yes, if the police are misled and money is involved.

Why don't you move to a new town, change your name, and just start over?
