Maybe I'm just thinking this because those movies made that time seem so wonderful to live in, (50's) and because I'm just growing up in this time it's different, but they made great movies without all the sex and cussing and I like them much better than the movies now. I know there are some good ones now but then, it just seems like they had real movie stars and now it's just "okay you're in this movie" and it's not the same.

Well I think they were better then because before TV came along it was the cheapest form of entertainment. So a lot of time and care was put into making movies and giving audiences what they like. Now movies compete with DVD, TiVo, iPods, TV, Cable and its also about making money. I also like old movies better because you can see in the movies today how much stuff is redone/taken/used from old movies. It's all been done before, the special effects are just better now.

I think because it was more about the quality of the movie back in the day then just the money. Movie studios seem to roll out movies just to turn a profit regardless of the quality. I think it's that simple.

I'm 46 and have grown to become more open to the older movies. I was watching a silent movie on TCM very early this morning and remember thinking that it's great not hearing obnoxious music, street slang, cursing, or seeing unrealistic car scenes, naked bodies, shaky camera shots, and my favorite axe to grind - computer graphics.

I thought it was just me and getting older. I like the older movies better because they're less vulgar and I can watch them with my kids. Can you imagine me taking my daughters (ages 9 and 5) to the theater on Christmas day to see "Black Christmas"? I don't think so!
