Two options:
if you're replacing a rod from a closet, and the shelf is still in place, you may notice that the wood against the wall, which holds the shelf up has a hole in it on one side and a slot on the other.
Lift out the shelf, as you will see that it is blocking access to the slotted area. Put the Closet rod into the hole on the opposite side and allow the rod to come down into place by moving the end through the slot. The wood will hold the rod in place. Replace the shelf.
The second option is to put one in a closet which has not had a rod before. You can find closet hardware at Home Depot and even Walmart. (Hardware can be two pieces, one of which is like a closed cap and the other which has an opening to the cap and is shaped more like a U; or you can also find ready cut wood much like that mentioned in the first option.)
Measure carefully or use a level on a rod and mark the wall as to where you want the rod to be. Install the hardware or wood as required. The hardware and wood both will be installed similarly, using hollow wall anchors or long screws which will go into the stud. The plastic hardware is installed iwht the cap on one end and the U on the other, wiht the U upright. The rod fits into the cap and then will set into the U on the other end.

this is hoping you have basic tools, drill, saw, hammer, and nails,
first get a 8"x8"x1" board and drill a hole in the middle of the board same size as closet rod, cut board in half, then you will have 2 boards the same size with 1/2 hole on each board.then nail boards to walls of closet about eye level, now get rod that will reach from board to board, and rest in 1/2 hole you nail to wall,if rod is over 3ft you may need a brace in middle, pick one up at hardware store.
hope this will help!
