well, first off, I'm a non-smoker, but I feel that's irrevelant.
to either it's an inconvience for the other:
for the smoker to not be able to smoke around the nonsmoker, for the bars in town to not allow smoking, for the cold, harsh night standing around trying to stay warm, for not being able to get a light : )
for the nonsmoker to have to leave the room, ask someone to step outside, please. for the nonsmoker to have to wear the smoke on their clothing despite the fact that they DON"T smoke. and besides that, the health reasons associated with second hand smoke aren't a nonsmoker's choice to intercept while sharing the same space with a smoker if there's no other option.
Which, therefore makes the smoker uncomfortable.
Round and round, a situation of being an inconvienence either way.

Non smokers hate smokers because they smell and they think they are ruining their lives and the lives of others around them. Smokers hate non smokers because they don't want to be told what they can and can't do with their body. It's a personal choice they made and they don't like being criticized by it.

Why do I hate smokers? Over 40,000 people a year are estimated to die from second hand smoke. That is why I stopped smoking, after 40 years. I could no longer support a smoking position that harmed so many others.

I'm a smoker, I have no problem with non smokers, in fact I concern myself frequently with not offending others with my smoke. Non smokers are never forced to breathe others smoke. Where I live smokers aren't allowed to be inside when smoking unless it is an 18 and up establishment. So non smokers don't have to go to those places where people are free to smoke

I do not hate smokers, I hate SMOKING. They damage our lunges, with their second hand smoke. And I resent that, and I may not like that someone does that, but that doesn;t mean I HATE the,. I would guess smokers get annoyed because non smokers get at them for smoking
smokers believe its THEIR decision to smoke, human rights
non smokers belive that 2nd hand smoke affects ThEIR health.
Did you know that Italy banned smoking inside public buildings? you can smoke outdoors and in your house, but the ciggerate goes out in restraunts and hotel lobbies. I think Other countries should try that to. It worked out and is actually suprisingly enforced and obeyed

I am a smoker, and Chris - I don't poison anyone, I smoke outside, or inside my house. If someone doesn't like it then they can leave MY house. And they CHOSE to stand next to me in this VAST world. You don't like it, stand ten feet further.
I want to know why non-smokers feel they can preech, and did they not know,
Whats doing the MOST damage to everyone is the burning oil, Diesl engines, Big Factories, all these factors that pollute the air. Believe me it's doing a lot more damage on your lungs that my second hand smoke.

I'm a non-smoker. Never have, never will. To me, the habit stinks - literally. It smells like a burning rope. Given a choice, I'd rather stand downwind of a cowbarn than a smoker.

Well, I think this is not the reality but a fiction of your mind. There is no such thing as hatred between smokers and non-smokers. I have friends who are professionals and smoke. I do not hate them and they do not hate me. They respect my decision not to smoke and are polite not to smoke around me.
Hating smoking and hating those who smoke are entirely 2 different things. Smoking and second-hand smoke are bad, but that does not mean people who smoke are bad people. They are just addicted to a harmful habit.
'Hate' is a very strong word and should not be used so lightly. There is enough hatred in the society.

i don't HATE smokers...but I kind of resent the fact that I'm being poisoned by second hand smoke. I'm choosing to live a healthy lifestyle by not smoking, but then I have no choice to breathe in the smoke by others. It has been proven that second hand smoke is AS dangerous as smoking. in my opinion, people need to smoke only in open areas where there aren't other people standing around.
