Well it's still out there you just have to look a little harder for it that's all.

if you want music with depth try:

Frank Zappa
Porqupine Tree
Steve Vai
Devin Townsend
Dream Theater
Frost
The Flaming Lips
Nine Inch Nails
The Divine Comedy
Bruce Springsteen
John Mayer
Keane
Nick Cave
Tom Waits

Etc...keep lookin' you'll find it. I suggest you just ignore the top 40 and any thing you see on "music" televsion.

Good music artists are still out there...you just need to look in the right places. Remember the song that went "The radio stations play what the record companies want you to hear"? That is so true. The entire problem rests on the record companies shoulders. They do not look for new talent, they look for what they think sells. The days of Sam Phillips and Sun Records are so long gone.

The other party to blame is radio. Taken over by two major companies, it is oldies, talk radio, Top 20...all very compartmentalized. Showcases for new artists are very difficult. DJ's have their hands tied in what they can and cannot play.

My favorite artists never ever have their songs played on the radio, and rarely make Billboard Magazine.

Two of my favorites right now are Presidents of the United States of America with "Love Everybody" and Raymond Gregory with "Why I'm Here". You have to look hard to find either one.

They are still out there, but you have to do a little bit of hunting. Switch off the Top 40 station and tune into independent stations instead. Use the internet to find new music. I have discovered countless new bands and artists here on Yahoo. Do you have a Launchcast station? If not, I recommend that you get one. Also, if you live in an urban area or college town, check out the local bands playing at bars and clubs in your area.

yeah, draw close on.... edit* enable's damage it down... "What befell to music?" this is nonetheless right here. reliable music. "in the 70s and 80s, there became so a lot more desirable intensity to maximum music." in the 70s & 80s there became only as a lot frivolous, pop music round. only that because the rock music of those years receives numerous interest because of radio. "human beings ought to pay interest to and savor the guitar taking section in, drumming, bass-taking section in really of only the vocals." i am going to concur more desirable there. ProTools & countless voice/pitch-correction courses have taken too a lot of a famous function in additional desirable modern-day music. "Now, an excellent type of artists have their heritage music generated by using a pc." in the 80s we had drum machines & numerous digital studio trickery taking place too. "The lyrics back then also had so a lot more desirable meaning." you've were given to attempt searching in any respect this from a "as we communicate" perspective & in case you look in the right places, you'll locate numerous significant music now. "Take Twisted Sister's i'm (i'm Me)" Twisted *Sister*? relaxing band & all, & i'm no longer constructive in case you've been round back then, yet i can inform you 1st hand, they were def' no longer a band that any one took too heavily back then. "Now inspect Hannah Montana's 7 issues. this is really a hate speech about her ex. on the instantaneous, maximum songs are about sex, breakups, and crushes. What befell? How did the international of music sink so low?" ALL those issues were written about loooooong before the 70s.

Exactly, it seems some only want something with a beat that repeats the same lyrics 30 times or is so nasty that you can't let your teens listen to it.
I want some cool lyrics with my cool music, thank you.

i could not agree more. music nowadays is not even music, it's like brainless nursery rhymes. the only reason it's so popular is because it makes money...how, i don't know, but it does.
