I can relate, I am twenty three and for years I worked dead end jobs! Until I decided to go back to school, now I am in college full time as well as a single mother. While in school I am also working a stay at home job. You should evaluate your interests and then father your education in that field. (DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME IN GOING TO SCHOOL FOR SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT FASCINATE YOU!!!) You will only be miserable in the long run. You can also visit my website for information on working at home part-time while deciding on what it is you really want to do. Good Luck!

Tony, Tony...you need more education. From your question (spelling and other errors), it's plain to see that you have not had all the education you need to make a proper decision.

No, I don't think you're a bum. But I do think you need some kind of further education. If you have graduated from high school, then you need Junior College, or some Technical School to move you along in the work world. If you have not graduated from high school, you can get a GED.

To be an adult is to support yourself. Take pride in your accomplishments. You sound like you are feeling sorry for yourself, and that is a natural state when you are not accomplishing anything.

There are lots of jobs available...what do you like to do? You must do something with your time. Do you read magazines? Something in your life right now is probably a clue to your future. Seek a job as an apprentice (student or learner) in the thing that interests you.

Many people join the military because it offers a place to go for training and further education. Two of my daughters joined the Air Force right out of high school. After their original stint, they found jobs in the field in which they were trained in the Service...one medical, the other management.

Be thankful to your parents, but don't take advantage of their love and caring for you. It could be a crutch you can't let go of if you use it too long.

Get out there. It's a wonderful World.

You're a bum if you have no job, are not going to school, and are living off of your parents. You should have taken time to think about your future while you had the job. Just because you were still working there and getting nowhere doesn't mean that you had to quit your job. How long are you going to take time to "think about your future"? How long are you going to stay at your parent's house? Get out on your own, live your life and you'll figure out what you need to do. In the mean time, not wanting to have that job forever was no excuse to quit it without something else lined up. You could have quit at any time, like when you had a better job to go to or when you decided to go to school. Now, you don't have a paycheck.

If I have to choose, I'm leaning toward "bum" over "smart".

Why? Because you can still be working while you figure out what you want to do. First, because you might as well be productive instead of idle - it keeps you in working mode. Second, because employers have higher regard for people currently working instead of sitting idle. Third, depending on the job, it could give you contacts or other horizon-expanding opportunities you otherwise won't get at home.

Lastly, you need to get used to carrying on with one job and continually seeking other opportunities - that's how most peoples' lives go, so it would be good discipline.

Not that taking a little time off is bad, but set a timetable for yourself, or you might find your little siesta turning into full indolence.

Good luck!

Wise thing 2 do!

but hey, if u r so confident, then u shudn't have this question. This means u r not sure. The fact is u are afraid of ur future. U r afradi that u will end up ur life doin a mundane job. But it will be much better than sitting at home.

U never know what will happen in the future. The best thing is u can take life as it comes. Instead of thinking or racing in the future, better get a job. U'll get some experience and new ideas will start creepin in ur mind. Further, doin a job will help u to gain discipline which is required to start ur own enterprise!

From personal experience:

You think a lot better about the "future" and what you want for yourself and how you are going to get it when you have a job that involves a lot of sweat and back breaking labor.

For me, it was home construction. I worked for about 8 months doing construction and it was one of the most "educational" experiences of my life. I saw guys that had been doing this for years and said this is not for me. I got my butt back into school the next year and got a job at a bar and stayed until I had my Masters. I now work in a technology company and do quite well, IMHO.

Get off your butt. Get a job or travel and find odd jobs on the road. Just get out there and do something besides sitting on the computer and hanging out with your friends watching TV.

Good Luck and God Bless.

As long as you are making the plans you are talking about and not get caught up on the down time and waste time. Why not go to even an online school in the meantime. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, start your own business online. Many young people do nowaways. Show your parents that even though you are not in school or out of work, that you are a responsible person. Help them out with chores around the house, dont spend all day playing games, etc. Run errands for them, wash their cars, etc. Be an asset, not a liability.

and Good Luck with your future endeavours.

I don't think it's totally stupid, but your parents can't support you forever like that. You should have found another job different from your old one before you quit. You're lucky your parents aren't charging you rent or kicking you out. It's not fair to them at all. If you needed some time to think you should've used your days off for that. But you should definitely be looking to find a career that you actually like. If you can't decide, take some classes. You might find something you like and then you could even go to school to further your chances at getting a job you like.

You are not a bum. You did the right thing if you really take the time you now have to consider your future. You are correct saying that a lot of times people get used to a job and stay there for a long time or too long to back to school. Truth is there are a lot of people who can only wish they did what you are doing. Take the time and do something you like to do and can get paid for doing it. If you like computers go to school for that if you like working on cars go to school for that, the list is endless. Congratulations on a wise decision. Good Luck.
