Tom morrello is undeniably the most innovative guitarist of this generation he has produced sounds that you just would not ever imagine to come from the pickup of a guitar, his speed, hammer-ons/offs are immense, you just have to listen to the album Battle of Los Angles (RATM) to see how innovative he is.
Then you have tracks off there first album which are just balls out rock n roll, the guy has a plethora techniques that have revolutionised the modern guitarists repertoire.
One word: Awsome!

John Petrucci is more on the metal side but i would say he is the best guitarist of any music.
