I like to say that everyone that has access to an acceptable education has a chance to make it in America. I believe this to be true based upon my own experiences. Those that do not have access to a good education do not have the same opportunities nor do they even have the proper exposure to know what is available.

Even the impoverished can apply for grants and scholarships. No matter how poor someone is, they can make time to study and improve their situation if they CHOOSE to. There is a lot of help available out there IF people are willing to work for it. Unfortunately, our society doesn't seem to respect hard work. We teach kids that they should want everything under the sun, and that it should all be handed to them on a silver platter.

Does a kid from the ghetto have the same advantages as a kid from the rich part of town? Of course not - but the kid from the ghetto is still free to make his or her own choices. If the kid makes the decision to work hard and to overcome their disadvantages, I believe they can. They may never be Bill Gates rich, but most of us won't. I agree that people's environment and upbringing certainly influence their choices, but we ARE still free to choose. We need to get rid of our victim mentality and our entitlement mentality and get back to the basics - work hard enough and, chances are, you'll get somewhere.

Why do you think that so many people can't take care of themselves? Don't you think that's selling them a little short?

It's part of the big illusion called the American dream.People want to believe it.Some believe in it out of good intentions, others because they profit or are fooled into believing they profit.People have a tendency to justify themselves and being part of the system they want to believe the system is good.
Fact is in America not everyone has equal opportunity like almost nowhere in the word.Women still get lower pay for the same work globally and in the US.I've always believed in the words of wisdom of Tupac and wondered if he had to go because of his political insight.
Although this song can be seen as dealing mostly with the race issue,in my opinion it contains a message for all the lower classes.Just look at that second paragraph.
Title: Words of Wisdom
Album: 2Pacalypse Now
Artist: 2PAC

Killing us one by one
In one way or another
America will find a way to eliminate the problem
One by one
The problem is
the troubles in the black youth of the ghettos
And one by one
we are being wiped off the face of this earth
At an extremly alarming rate
And even more alarming is the fact
that we are not fighting back
Brothers, sistas, ******
When I say ****** it is not the ***** we are grown to fear
It is not the ***** we say as if it has no meaning
But to me
It means Never Ignorant Getting Goals Acomplished, *****
****** what are we going to do
Walk blind into a line or fight
Fight and die if we must like ******

This is for the masses the lower classes
The ones you left out, jobs were givin', better livin'
But we were kept out
Made to feel inferior, but we're the superior
Break the chains in our brains that made us fear yah
Pledge a legiance to a flag that neglects us
Honour a man that who refuses to respect us
Emmancipation, proclamation, Please!
Lincoln just said that to save the nation
These are lies that we all accepted
Say no to drugs but the governments' keep it
Running through our community, killing the unity
The war on drugs is a war on you and me
And yet they say this is the Home of The Free
But if you ask me its all about hyprocracy
The constitution, Yo, it don't apply to me
Lady Liberty still the ***** lied to me
Steady strong nobody's gonna like what I pumpin'
But its wrong to keeping someone from learning something
So get up, its time to start nation building
I'm fed up, we gotta start teaching children
That they can be all that they wanna to be
There's much more to life than just poverty

This is defaintly ahhh words of wisdom
AMERIKA, AMERIKA, AMERIKKKA
I charge you with the crime of rape, murder, and assault
For suppressing and punishing my people
I charge you with robery for robbing me of my history
I charge you with false imprisonment for keeping me
Trapped in the projects
And the jury finds you guilty on all accounts
And you are to serve the consequences of your evil schemes
Prosecutor do you have any more evidience

Words of Wisdom
They shine upon the strength of an nation
Conquer the enemy on with education
Protect thy self, reach with what you wanna do
Know thy self, teach what we been through
On with the knowledge of the place, then
No one will ever oppress this race again
No Malcolm X in my history text
Why is that?
Cause he tried to educate and liberate all blacks
Why is Martin Luther King in my book each week?
He told blacks, if they get smacked, turn the other cheek
I don't get it, so many questions went through my mind
I get sweated, They act as if asking questions is a crime
But forget it, one day I'm gonna prove them wrong
Now every brother had to smother on the welfare line
The american dream, though it seems it attainable
They're pulling your sleeve, don't believe
Cause it will strangle yah
Pulling the life of your brain, I can't explain
Beg as you can obtain from which you came
Swear that your mother is living in equality
Forgeting your brother that's living her apology
Thought they had us beat when they took our kids
But the battle ain't over till the black man sings
Words of Wisdom
But the battle ain't over till the black man sings
Words of Wisdom

NIGHTMARE thats what I am
America's nightmare
I am what you made me
The hate and evil that you gave me
I shine of a reminder of what you have done to my people
for Four hundred plus years
You should be scared
You should be running
You should be trying to silence me
ha ha
But you can not escape fate
Well it is my turn to come
Just as you rose you shall fall
By my hands
Amerika, You reap what you sow
2pacalypse America's Nightmare
Ice Cube and Da Lench Mob America's Nightmare
Above the Law America's Nightmare
Paris America's Nightmare
Public Enemy America's Nightmare
Krs-One America's Nightmare
Mutulu Shakur America's Nightmare
Geronimo Pratt America's Nightmare
Assatta Shakur America's Nightmare

Stop whining

Come over here to the Middle East and see how TRULY screwed up a place this is.

Women treated as nothing more than a warm body, men treated as nothing more than a mobile bomb detonation device, children left to starve while a protest against the interpretation of a single word in teh Koran caused a mass riot resulting in hundred of injuries.

Idealistically speaking, all citizens of this great country do have the same chance (for success). It is out fellow citizens that seek to limit each other’s ability to work and live in peace.

However, if you believe that you can do better in say, Nigeria or Iran, then by all means don’t let the door hit you in the a** on your way out.

Because, broadly speaking, it's true.

Bill Clinton had very little, and became President.

Children of the wealthy screw up all the time.

You have the best opportunities to make it in this country - no other. And to provide better lives for your children.

If you spend your time worrying about who has more or less, you will not be focused on what you need to do.

Bitterness won't help anyone.

Because they are colored blind. The chance you get is the chance you take or make for your self. Whether it "American Apple Pie" or "A Bowl Full of Cherries," we all get what we pay for. Also, life is for the taking.

no its true. just because ones family from 100 years ago could not become something does not give this generation the right to sit and moan that they are owed this and that because of how the family was treated years ago. get off of your lazy butt, get an education and be responsible for your self. prove to everyone that you are someone.
