Depends on the person. Some people don't care about fashion -- when they see something they like they buy it, or they buy certain types of clothes because they fit well or because they don't wear out quickly. Some people live and die by the fashion magazines -- every time there's a new look, those people are buying a new wardrobe because they always want to be on the cutting edge of what's new and hip. Of course, you have the rest of the people who fall somewhere in the middle. Fashion can directly affect the way we dress, regardless of whether we care about it or not, by producing more of a certain clothing item or by discontinuing a clothing item altogether -- if you see an item more often, it might "grow on you," and if you really like something that was discontinued, you'll have to go out and find something to replace it.

fashion affects not only the way we look but the way we think and how people think of us..

take people who watch the celebs or reading magzines.. now don't get me wrong I'm one of those people to but I don't try and dress like them... the media does set the "look" for what we are suppose to look like... people go dying to look " the look" whatevers in they want to be all about it.. they tend to forget what matters.. they will buy jeans for 200 dollers because it's in.. when they can buy something just as good for like 30 bucks.. alot of people feel relating themselves to a celeb will give them confidence.. but really your at lost cause you don't know who you really are.. sure you can have influance but you want to stand out on your own
