ok chris, the equation tells u that the value of "y" equals 3 times "x" minus 4.

The numbers are coordinates: 1.2 is x and -0.4 is y.

Simple arithmetic will work this out:

3 times 1.2 equals 3.6. Take away 4 equals -0.4. so the first is correct.

Continue like this and you will get the odd one out.

In each bracket you have a point described by its x and y coordinates - i.e. (x,y) Just put the value of 'x' into your equation in each case and calculate 'y' using the equation and you will find one of the pairs of numbers does not tally. (Answer at bottom of page),

(Any two coordinates describe a point on a line appertaining to that equation - so it's not too difficult if you just do the simple sum)



























































































Answer: (8.3,19.9) is not on the line
(you'll still need to do the simple sum to show this is the case though...but that's not too tough!)

substitute the x coordinate and y coordinate and check if the right side equal to the left , than count 1 point.
