I feel like I was born in the wrong time period and should of been born in the late 30s so I could have been around during the 50s and early 60s.. I don't like the time we are living in now.. I really don't like growing up with everything that's going on. Things were so different..

Not just the things like the war and stuff, but the way kids act, trying to be much older than they are, and people aren't as polite and now it's just like nobody cares.

But think of the modern convinces you have that I did not. Cell phones, the Internet, credit cards, Ipods, Xbox, and all the rest that I don't even understand. The 1930's were a difficult time. The nation suffered from a horrible economic upheaval. Most people were out of work and uneducated. We went hungry, because there was no food.
Thanks to modern medicine you have the opportunity to live a longer and happier life. Add to this, the fact that you have a chance to see a future that I will not. I wonder what life will be like in 50 years. You have a chance to see that future, where I do not.
There is an ancient Chinese curse which translates into something like, "May you live in interest times."
This is a very interesting time to live.

You've been listening to way too many old people wax nostalgic about how "great the old days were"... Nowadays you're just a LOT more aware of every little thing going on because of mass media. Growing up is a challenge regardless. Are you SURE you would have wanted to grow up during the depression? Or during WWII? Or the Vietnam era? etc. etc.... you only THINK it would have been so much better or different or easier, but you cannot possibly know because the only thing you know is what you read in history books and hear from crazy old people who have their rose-colored glasses on. Find some people who are willing to speak candidly about growing up in the early part of the 20th century. I bet they had the same kinds of issues with bullies and mean girls, etc. Everything is relative.
In any case -- you're here now. Why not concentrate on making each day that you're living in the here and now meaningful for you instead of wasting time wishing you had been born earlier?

It is never as good as we are told. We may have Dr. Dre or Paris Hilton; but the people of that time period had the same problem with Elvis. Nowadays, what Elvis did isn't anything; but back then all the adults thought he was this raunchy nasty individual ruining the kids. In the future, I doubt anyone will look at Paris Hilton and think of her as we do now.
And the 60's was a violent time of revolution and fighting. The end result of blacks gaining more-or-less equality, women having the right to work, and so on is good; but they had a hell of time pulling it off. And with Vietnam being the original Iraq (so to speak), you'd be pretty much dealing with everything you are dealing with today. Basically we are just given rose-colored glasses about past times. But past times are replete with lack of freedom and unquestioned conformity; and even when they weren't that they were violent and restless times.

I know what you mean. I'm only 16 years old but I feel so different from other kids. I guess you can say that I have "traditional values". I know not all kids are like super-modern but alot are. I feel like I would've been much happier in the 50s! :o)

You should talk to peple from the thirties they will tell you it was no picnic. The grass is always greener on the other side until you get over there and see all the weeds. Every era is difficult. Find your happy place.

You just conduct yourself as a decent human being. I agree that this time and age is like everything goes. But in the midst of this, there are still good people.

i grew up in the 60's and it wasn't at all rosy. every age has its share of good and bad. we cant change whats going on around us we can just change how we choose to cope with it. we remember the good but we try to forget the bad.
