Cologne is a difficult purchase. Everyone's body chemistry is different and therefore reacts differently to perfumes. depending on your relationship (say mother, sister, aunt or close cousin) you could suggest to take him to a better department store and allow him to pick out something. My aunt did this with me when I was 16 and I Chose Eau Sauvage from Dior and proceeded to wear it for the next 20 years.
The other part of it is that scent is very personal. What one thinks is a pleasing odor can be repellent to another.
If you cant or don't want to go the shopping route. then Go to a department store and get a bunch of samples. If you explain to the sales person behind the counter, he or she will be happy to give you tons of them. Then include a card that states when he has made a choice based on the samples, you will buy him a bottle.
If you still want to make the pick yourself go for something with a clean, well scrubbed scent, not too musky. I always prefer that a man present an image that is clean and well groomed. anything to heavy can have the reverse impact.

when you're on a funds the standard Curve by Liz Claiborne has continually gotten me compliments type women. except that purely go right into a Macy's or Dillard's and pattern some. My own favorites a Burberry London and Versace Pour Homme.

The new Armani cologne has a gift set with cologne, deodorant, and after shave for $65.00. Check retailers like Macy's, Rich's , etc.

Kenneth Cole Black for Him is a good choice. It is $59.50 at department stores and I am sure they have gift sets available this time of year with a lotion or aftershave included. I would also recommend anything by Armani. The Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme smells nice and is about $65.00 in a gift set at department stores. Also Burberry London for Him and Burberry Brit for Him smell really good and they are nice winter smells. They are about $65.00 also for a gift set.

I just bought my 21 year old son Sean John, Unforgiven. I bought it for $75CDN, and that included a matching deodorant stick. Got it at Sears. He also has been known to steal his dad's Dolce and gabanna, so that's a good choice, too.

If you're his girlfriend, get him something you like since you'll be the one smelling it the most.
If you're not, don't bother. I know very few men who wear cologne. I know fewer people who like to smell a dude wearing cologne. Most people find it a little obnoxious.

Go to the beauty counter at a department store and ask what's popular. They will let you sample everything and give great advice. Good luck. Happy holidays.
