Possibly not. I do believe congress will tighten up some legislation in order to make it more difficult for a President to assume additional powers. A great start would be to curtail or do away with 'signing statements'. President Bush has used these quite effectively to circumvent some legislation that has been passed.
For those who do not remember the post Watergate period, the President's ability to utilize the nations intelligence services was somewhat limited by congress. The President's interaction with the IRS was also made more difficult after Watergate.

There is a difference in the office loosing power and loosing public confidence. It is possible that some people have lost confidence in the presidency. After Clinton's sex lies, a lot lost faith then too. This comes and goes.
Actual presidential power was never lost after Nixon. Also, Bush has increased presidential power. The largest loss of power happened during Kennedy's term, after the botched attempt to overthrow Castro and congress restricted the president's power. This is not likely to happen after Bush, although many would like to have it done.

Yes I am afraid it will after Nixon the American people elected Carter what a wimp that guy was. I think after a strong president like Bush the pendulum might swing back to electing a wimp again (maybe Hillary) we barley survived Carter he lost all 50 states before American came to their senses and elected Reagan and Bush but then we elected wimp lite in Clinton then back to a strong president in GW so you see where this might be going. The only difference we might not survive another wimp.

I think the word you are looking for here is integrity, not power. The office of the presidency of the United States did not lose any power after the Nixon scandal nor will it after this administration or any subsequent administration for that matter.

Remains to be seen.If the next administration can show some moral dignity and some charisma, the fallout may be minimal. That said,it's going to be tough for anyone to restore the integrity of the Presidency.Too many nations are disenchanted by what has happened during Bush's terms, especially the last three years of the current one.Respect must be earned and I think we have lost some of that respect;which subsequently, will cost us some points at the bargaining table.

Good question!
Yes, I think so. Rightly or wrongly, people will see Bush as having a great deal of power, and the pendulum will swing back to the legislature exercising more power.
This phenomenon affected Ford and Carter.
But then, of course, Reagan came along less than a decade later.

Not unless the new Congress discovers some hanky panky, a smoking gun that shows Bush, for example, knew NO WMD existed and sent in troops anyway.
Previously Bush had a rubber stamp. Now, he will ACTUALLY face real close looks at what he does. That's the only difference.

I would imagine that President Clinton and Vice President Obama will role back the infrigements on our liberties and the illegal spying that Bush has imposed. Don't know who is going to "pardon" Bush though as he will be wanted for war crimes overseas as Rumsfeld is already. :-)

Yeah the next president will inherit the division within America and fall victim to it. It will be the one after him that will have the opporotunity to do a good job.

We have NO legal president. The question you should ask is whether the Dumbya Coup will be overturned and will a legally elected president restore the Constitution. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!
